A Photography Studio Embracing Natural Light and Transparency

The Bon-Appetit Photography studio, located in Hsinchu city, Taiwan, was originally built in 1982. Tsai's vision was to coexist with natural daylight as much as possible, recognizing the importance of light alteration in photography. The glass brick facade, inspired by the properties of semi-transparency, gives the building a semi-clear appearance, undermining the sloping ground line and visual heftiness typically associated with traditional structures.

Upon entering the studio, visitors are immediately captivated by the contrast between the cement hollow-brick walls and the glass-brick facade. This juxtaposition represents a synthesis of old and new, blending the charm of the past with the innovation of the present. Both materials allow light to transmit freely, creating a light-filled ambiance that enhances the photography experience.

The interior of the studio is a testament to Tsai's attention to detail and commitment to preserving historical colonial styles. The original flooring and wood-framed fold-up windows were carefully preserved, adding a touch of nostalgia to the space. The walls and ceilings were refurbished using materials such as terrazzo and particle boards, giving the studio a unique and handcrafted feel.
